Clay is a natural compound used since ancient times by man. It has always been widely used due to its absorbent, purifying and sanitizing power. Probably its properties were discovered by humans’ observation of animals rolling in the mud to heal wounds: from this empirical experience, man began to experience this “cure” on himself. Galen praised its virtues for the health of the body as a remedy for the beauty of the body; Pliny the Elder dedicated an entire chapter to its properties in the text “Historia naturalis”. The use of clay and the use of its properties was lost for a time, and was found in recent times, the last century. White clay is widely used mainly due to its grain size, colour and plasticity (has a high content of silica and aluminium) in cosmetic applications, especially for the preparation of beauty masks for face and hair, and also as a powder for children. White clay purifies the epidermis and tightens pores, leaving skin smooth, soft and glowing; also useful for removing blackheads and fighting acne. The absence of allergens in its composition makes it well tolerated by any type of skin, whether young or mature. Localized compresses can help combat stretch marks and water retention, or relieve aches and bruises. White clay is also great on hair, making it healthier and stronger if weakened and brittle, but also to counteract hair loss. The white clay wrap, is especially good for oily hair.- Functional components: Clays are the main constituents of the earth’s surface. They play a vital role in the life of man and the kingdoms of nature. In general, white clay consists of a mix of minerals, especially silicon (48%) and aluminium (36%) which give it the typical silvery-white color. White clay (or kaolin – from the Kao-Ling region of China where the first white clay deposit was discovered) is the indispensable ingredient for making beauty masks. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that, being less absorbent than green clay, it is more suitable for sensitive skin (it does not dry the skin and, just like a peeling, removes fragments of peeling cells very gently). How to use: For face masks: pour 1 tablespoon of white clay into a glass or ceramic bowl, add enough water to knead and mix it until you get a very beautiful white cream, shiny appearance and plastic texture. You can add 3-10 drops of 100% pure essential oil by mixing well. Apply the mask to the skin of the face and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Remove white clay using a sponge moistened with warm water, hydrolat or even herbal tea (usually removes when dry). Repeat treatment 1-3 times a week, depending on skin type. For hair masks: pour 1 tablespoon of white clay into a glass or ceramic bowl, add enough water and coconut/linen/castor oil to knead it into a thick cream to be applied to the entire hair, first wet, and leave for about 20 minutes. Then wash with a light shampoo and rinse with warm or cold water. N.B. _ Add 3-10 drops of 100% pure essential oil by mixing well. For poultices: use more white clay in proportion to the surface to be treated, apply to the body and cover with a wool cloth or bandage for at least 30 minutes. Always remove using a sponge moistened with warm water, hydrolat or even herbal tea (usually remove when dry). For partial baths: Dissolve 80-100g of white clay in a basin with warm water and soak hands/feet. For total baths: Dissolve 500g of white clay in the bathtub filled with water and then immerse the body completely.
